About gerold

I have a bit of financial experience having invested in stocks in the 1960s & 70s, commodities in the 80s & commercial real estate in the 90s (I sold in 2005.) I'm back in stocks. I am appalled at our rapidly deteriorating global condition so I've written articles for family, friends & colleagues since 2007; warning them and doing my best to explain what's happening, what we can expect in the future and what you can do to prepare and mitigate the worst of the economic, social, political and nuclear fallout. As a public service in 2010 I decided to create a blog accessible to a larger number of people because I believe that knowledge not shared is wasted.

Farewell Capitalism – Oct. 21, 2008

With the recent nationalization of U.S. financial institutions, we’ve seen the death of capitalism. When will they have the funeral? It doesn’t take long for “rugged independence” to become pigs feeding at the public trough. See article below from WStreet … Continue reading

More Financial Insanity – Oct. 21, 2008

So this weekend, the ECU and the EU and the IMF and SHIT and all the King’s Horses and all the King’s men got together and decided to use more Keynesian economics (spend lots more of the taxpayer’s money) to … Continue reading

John Mauldin – Big Bad Bailout – Sept. 27, 2008

This is an email I sent to John Mauldin of “Thoughts from the Frontline”. Needless to say, I did not get a reply. @ John Mauldin re: “Who’s afraid of a Big, Bad Bailout?” Sept, 26, 2008 I’ve been around for … Continue reading

Crash accelerates – bailout of AIG – Sept. 21, 2008

It’s been one of the most tumultuous weeks in the history of the financial world, especially in the E.S.S.A. – the Excited Socialist States of America where institutions are disintegrating at an accelerating pace. This week will probably go … Continue reading

Big Brother’s stock & commodity crash – Sept. 7, 2008

Sorry for so many articles lately but, events are happening at an accelerating pace. Friday’s report from Don Coxe, BMO’s Global Financial Strategist was very interesting. Don is as old as dirt, has been around since Adam met Eve and … Continue reading

Buy meat on sale – July 19, 2008

Ok, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it just one more time. Now is your opportunity to buy beef, hamburger, pork, chicken, etc. on sale (except for fish.) Yesterday, I bought sirloin for $2.99 / lb. That’s cheap! By … Continue reading

Global Food Crisis – June 10, 2008

Global food shortages are predicted. Yes, even here. If you haven’t begun a long-term food storage program, then read this article from Britain and ask yourself, why not? The following MailOnline article says it all very well so rather than … Continue reading

Crash of 2007 – Economics 101

Reading time 6,837 words, 16 to 27 minutes. Bubbles burst. That’s the simple explanation of what’s happening in the financial world in 2007. A lengthy explanation involves an alphabet soup of terminology. I’ll try to make it as simple as … Continue reading

Quadrillions in Derivatives – June 10, 2008

This is approaching insanity. In the paper I wrote last fall “The Crash of 2007” I said that globally the value of derivatives (funny money) was $516 Trillion as reported by the BIS (Bank of International Settlements.) Compare this to … Continue reading

Food Shortage – Apr. 18, 2008

Two stories attached. You would think that with wheat selling at record high prices, farmers would cheer. American farmers are finding that high prices are useless if you have little to sell.     The second story will make you glad … Continue reading
